Embroidered kiln formed glass

2025

150mm x 150mm x 30mm

Compositions of native bush, textures of micro and macro worlds, colours evoked from the emotions of a synaesthete: these elements narrate the delicate paths of my mental landscapes.

Made intuitively during periods of introspection, the repetitive process of hand stitching carefully crafted glass elements to make a bigger whole is a healing tool that helps me to process complex emotions.

The Way Out is Through is a meditative practice to calm and focus, and a study in embracing chaos and change.

This is an ongoing series.

The pieces displayed in this gallery range in size from

150mm - 310mm in diameter.

The Way Out is Through

2022

This piece explores the experience of sitting with uncomfortable emotions.
Crafted from kiln formed glass ‘wings’, which are individually embroidered into hoops, these images depict the first iteration of this ongoing series, which combined to create a 7m long installation.

It was first installed as part of a group show ‘Nodus Tollens’, an exhibition exploring mental health held at Thistle Hall, Wellington alongside artists Mary Laine, Datura Child and Serpent Dream
